How to Write More Posts About How to Take Better Photos…

October 29, 2009

The “How to Take Better Photos” series has been moving along quite nicely, and I’m glad to see others getting so much out of it! Thank you so much for reading and commenting, it really is appreciated.

Moving forward, I have a few topics in mind for the next posts, but wanted to solicit your thoughts. Do any of the topics listed below strike your fancy? Or is there something I haven’t mentioned you’d like to see covered?

RAW vs. JPEG – Which should you shoot and why?

HDR Photography – Crash course in shooting and creating high dynamic range (HDR) images

Shooting Food – Self explanatory…

Photo Processing 101 – A rundown of what to do after you’ve taken your photos

I vote Photo Processing 101 personally.

Others would also benefit from RAW vs. JPEG and HDR if they’re in to that.

All of them (other than shooting food) are of interest to me. In particular “RAW” vs. “JPEG.”

They all look great to me, but I’d have to agree with Aaron that shooting food seems a little less interesting.

Photo processing, FTW! My workflow is for shit when it comes to what I do after shooting.

I think shooting food is interesting and I end up shooting lots of food presentation shots during our potlucks. It’s difficult too.

I just think photo processing should fall first in this series as it would lend itself well to the others. In fact, now that I say that it probably makes sense to teach people the benefits of shooting in RAW so that they have the full range of photo processing options. 🙂

    Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

Seems like photo processing has the majority vote – but I think I’m going to tackle RAW vs JPG first. It’s a discussion worth having, and it’ll lay the groundwork for a subsequent photo processing post quite nicely.

    Anything but shooting food.
Shooting food is a weak and self indulgent cop out for those who don’t have the creativity to see interesting compositions anywhere else

Raw vs Jpeg sounds good to me.
Perhaps you could also discuss the pros and cons of different file conversion tools / formats?

Nice. Can you tell that I read chronologically?
