Social Media

I typically shy away from marketing “experts”, but over the past few months I’ve started following a number of social media blogs. I mean, I work for a social media agency, so it kind of behooves me to keep up to speed on the current trends and conversations.

And…wow.

I’ll be honest. There are some good thoughts out there, but for the most part it’s navel-gazing and making mountains out of molehills.

Now, when you get into the brass tacks of SEO optimization, video production or program measurement, things are bound to get somewhat complicated. But at it’s most basic, social media is pretty much common sense. It’s the Golden Rule (“do unto others…”) turned into a marketing strategy.

It’s a simple truth that often gets lost among the chatter and diluted by the inability of so many brands to get over themselves.

In this series of posts, I hope to get back to this simple truth, and maybe reduce a few of those mountains into molehills in the process.
