KHAAAAAAAAANNNN!
When I was a kid, I loved me some Star Trek. Hell, who am I kidding? I still love me some Star Trek. And one of the things I love most is the way the crews stick together through season after season, film after film. Mentally, sure, you know everyone came from different ships, you know it’s completely unrealistic for the same crew to stick around for years and decades…
But there’s something really appealing about the same crew, a crew that trusts one another implicitly, that works so well together, sticking together over that span of time.
I know it’s naive in the extreme, but a part of me wishes that kind of team longevity could exist in today’s world.
Sadly, it can’t. And it’s usually just when I lull myself into the false hope that maybe, just maybe, it can that reality goes and pulls the rug out from beneath my feet. Sometimes it’s layoffs. And sometimes it’s just someone pursuing an opportunity that’s too good to pass up.
But, you know, it still sucks.
I does indeed suck.
Building a great team is one thing, keeping them together through the long haul is something else entirely.
Sometimes I wish it was as simple as negotiating contracts with an agent.
