Top 25 Films of the 2000s – #12

#12 – Casino Royale (2006)

In my opinion, the most shocking thing about Casino Royale isn’t how well it managed to reboot James Bond. Nor is it how much Daniel Craig rocked this movie. The most shocking thing is that it was directed by Martin Campbell, the same guy who directed Goldeneye.

Of course, Goldeneye itself was something of a reboot, the first (and best) of the Pierce Brosnan 007 movies. And, to it’s credit, it did have that amazing tank chase. But it had nothing of the brutal energy found in Casino Royale.

Whatever happens with forthcoming Bond flicks, I think it’s safe to say that Casino Royale will ultimately be remembered as one of the better Bond flicks, up there with the best of the Connery era, and that, plus the fresh perspective it brings the character, is enough to earn it a spot in this list.
