A Bigger Mini

July 27, 2007

After more than a year of spy shots and speculation, Mini has finally pulled the wraps off of its 2008 Clubman. Designed to address some of the limitations of the Cooper, the Clubman rides on a lengthened wheelbase, creating more space for backseat passengers. It also sports a pickup-style suicide door for easier ingress and egress.

My opinion? It’s not as bad as I’d feared, but it still strikes me as a hearse for midgets. The longer wheelbase just throws the proportions of the car off too much. That, and I’m still not sold on the roof colors carrying down to the C-pillars. I suppose it reminds me of the Smart Fortwo.
