Don’t Buy It, Sorry

August 2, 2006

According to a recent survey by Oxygen Media and Teenage Research Unlimited…

  • 77%  of women surveyed would prefer a new plasma television to a diamond solitaire necklace
  • 56% would opt for a new plasma TV over a weekend vacation in Florida
  • 86% would prefer a new digital video camera to a pair of designer shoes

Uh huh.  I’m sure.  And 84% of men would rather win a shopping spree at Linens ‘N Things than Best Buy.

I don’t buy it either….I would, without a doubt, take a diamond necklace of equal value over a plasma television. Now, with the trip to Florida, I might take the tv.

But I will always take a pair of designer shoes, perhaps a pair of Chanel, Jimmy Choo, or Manolo Blahnik’s, just as examples, over any piece of electrolic equipment–hands down. But hey I LOVE shoes….So this is probably not a fair question to ask me.

Women saying one thing and meaning another? Perish the thought!

I have to tell you, I’d take the tv over all of that stuff. I mean, a weekend in Hawaii? Maybe. But Florida? Forget it.

Would you take the shoes….or just the label on them?

A vacation comes and goes, but Plasma lasts forever!

Have to say, the survey reflects what would happen in our house. Beth keeps on referring to any non-flat screen TV as old and keeps asking when we can replace them.

Besides, flat screens are as big a status symbol as diamonds about now … that may fade as they become more common, but I find the survey completely believeable.

I would take the TV for the first two, but the last, well, it’s all about the shoes.
