On the Road

July 14, 2006

Jamie and I are off this morning on the first leg of our 3,300-mile road trip across the South, the former Confederacy, the BellSouth service region, call it what you will.

Today we will be leaving Austin, crossing Texas, and dashing across Louisiana before reaching our destination of Vicksburg, Mississippi.  Sights along the way will include, well, not much.  Unless, of course, you consider the thriving urban centers of Longview and Shreveport to be sights.

Not THE Shreveburg? With its three universities, internationally famed skyline, luscious open air parks, seven Nobel prize winning residents and known the world over for its vibrant cafe and bar culture?

Or have I got that mixed up with somewhere else?

whoa whoa whoa what’s this about? you’ve been holding out on me man! Are you going to go up through Nashville. Are you going to be in a mammoth blue Chevy Silverado? Is it going to randomly snow? Will you end up going to Lonnie’s? Just a few random questions…

Are you going to stop to see the worlds largest ball of twine? Say “Hi” to cousin Eddie for me.

Yeah, Shreveport and and Shreveburg, not the same.

Shreveport, for example, is home to a casino called BOOMTOWN.

Shreveport is also called Sleezeport by the fine citizens of New Orleans.

    And that’s saying something.
