Production Number

May 30, 2006

I got the production number for the Mini today.  Let several weeks (months, who knows…) of anxiety begin.

Have you ever ordered something from Amazon (or another reputable online retailer) that you are just dying to have?  You get the confirmation e-mail and then, some point later, you get…the tracking number.  You check up on it a few times a day, watching as your package progresses from somewhere in the middle-of-nowhere Indiana to Memphis…Dallas…Ottawa…until at last it arrives, hand carried to your door by a man or woman wearing brown or blue (or sometimes yellow, if you are into the whole DHL thing).

The Mini production number is pretty much the same thing, only with a car, and without any UPS, FedEx, or DHL involvement.

Right now, my Mini is listed as "on order, scheduled for production with no production date set".

Yes, this is what you have to look forward to for the next several weeks.

I hope that doesn’t mean you’re going to need the defibrillator while waiting for your Mini.

But at least we have a plan to numb him with Celine Dion.
