Julaugustember

May 23, 2006

Saturday afternoon, after I had done by mountain biking and dropped my bike on the roof of the Mazda, Jamie and I made our way from Austin to San Antonio.  We took my super cool route through the Hill Country, which I discovered on my last trip to be much preferable to I-35.  We took her Mustang, to lessen the risk of being left stranded outside a gas station.

Our destination?  The Mini Center.

After restroom breaks, the sales guy I’ve been talking with took us out on a test drive so that Jamie could experience the driving goodness that is the Mini Cooper S.  Then it was back to the dealership, where we put in an order for a 2006 MCSa, RG/S with bonnet stripes* and a whole host of goodies.  We also learned that all it takes to be considered a great American is to give someone a free cupholder.  Neil Armstrong could have saved himself a hell of a lot of trouble if only someone had told him.

Overall, it was the most pleasant dealership experience I’ve ever had.  The sales people were friendly and engaging, with snarky, vaguely smartass senses of humor that seemed to fit perfectly with the Mini’s personality.

I should be receiving a production number this week…and depending on production schedules and whatnot, I should be taking delivery sometime in Julaugustember.

Does the stripe make you go faster?

    Just asking.

Well, the contrasting color of the stripes helps duct the passing air into the hood scoop and over the intercooler…

Actually, no, the stripes don’t do anything. All of the go faster pieces are under the hood – supercharger, intercooler, JCW air intake. The stripes are just part of the sport package.

Normally, I’m not a big fan…but somehow they seem to fit on a Mini.

On a blog where non-sequitur comments are fairly common … that still wins the prize, Mark. Is that code for something?
