Road Trip!

May 9, 2006

The wife and I are planning a road trip across much of BellSouth’s nine-state territory this summer.  Why?  Well, I have a hankering for a good road trip (it’s been a good four years since my last multi-state drive), and the wife is tempted by the prospect of visiting a string of old plantation homes, as well as Washington, D.C. (she’s never been).

At the moment, we’re contemplating cutting through the heart of the Confederacy South on the way to D.C, and then heading down the Shenandoah, across the Great Smoky Mountains, and into Tennesse for the return trip.

Want to follow along?  Want to suggest points of interest, places to go, and things to see?  Have a look-see at this map I’ve put together, and contribute at will.

Why not the “Redneck Tour Food”?
    – Pork rinds in Little Rock
    – Beef Jerkey in Jackson
    – Wash it down with a Budweiser in Mobile
    – Fried Okra in Atlanta
    – And finish it up with a fried Twinkie in Tallahassee

Of course you will have to do all of this in a 4×4 Pickup adorned with no less that 5 bumper stickers, wearing cutoff jean shorts, some type of camoflauge clothing, a tanktop exposing a brilliant “farmer’s tan” toped of with a Dale Earnhart multi-colored cap. Extra bonus points if you stencil your name and Jamie’s on the truck’s back window. Double extra bonus points if you grow a goatee!
I think that all of this traveling may be getting to me!

Just got a vision of Matt in a mesh half-tee with the sleeves cut off.

    Yeah, there goes my night.

Will you be going through the Carolinas?

Yep…we’re going to be skirting the very northwestern edge of SC (passing through Greenville) and then heading through NC (Charlotte, Greensboro, etc) into Viriginia.

On the way back we’re staying in Asheville before taking the Tail of the Dragon into Tennessee.
