The Solution to Everything

April 24, 2006

So I’ve got an idea, and a pretty good one, at that.  One that would probably lower the price of gas (by about 3/10 of a percent…).  One that would help the environment, lead to a better quality of life, allow us to talk to our pets, and travel back in time  in a series of wacky adventures.

Okay, maybe that’s going a bit too far.  But it is still a good idea.

A national "Do Not Mail" list.  We already have a "Do Not Call" list, so why not a "Do Not Mail" list?

Wouldn’t it be nice to open your mailbox and not be overwhelmed by a flood of credit card applications and offers to save 10% on your monthly cable bill if you call now?  Wouldn’t it be nice to be spared the frustration of opening the IMPORTANT LOOKING LETTER only to find out that it is really nothing but ANOTHER CREDIT CARD APPLICATION gussied up to fool you into actually opening it?

It’d never happen, of courrse.  The marketers pay for the mail, and the government makes a killing off the postage rates (not that I’m cynical about that).

But one can dream.
