Special Edition…Rental Car?

April 12, 2006

In what must be the weirdest announcement to come out of the New York Auto Show, Ford is planning a special, limited edition Mustang that will only be available…

…as a Hertz rental car.

I think someone owes someone money.

Last month when I was in California, my free upgrade car from Hertz was a Mustang (It only has 63 miles at the time). It takes speed bumps really well at high speeds!

How come I always get stuck with the Pontiac Grand Am or Chevy Malibu?

Ford did this with Shelbys in the 60’s

    “’66 Hertz Shelby GT350 H

The ’66 Hertz Shelby GT350H was specially prepared for Hertz Rent-A-Car as a publicity move for the benefit of Hertz, Shelby American, and Ford. The cars made for Hertz were equipped with automatic transmissions and special black-and-gold paint jobs. Only 1,001 copies were produced. It’s hard to imagine walking into a Hertz agency and renting a GT350 right off the lot, but it was reality in 1966. ”

This last week, I go stuck with a Subaru Outback Station Wagon – Oh the POWER!!!!! I would have had a lot of room for groceries though.

that is just lame. ford should take a cue from toyota and not deal with rental car companies. it degrades the value of the whole brand, imo
