I Have a Book Idea

December 6, 2005

Okay.  Get this.

The American Revolution…but with dragons.

Oh, wait.  It’s already been done.

Maybe I’ll have to fall back on the Civil War and unicorns…

Maybe that’s the solution the writers block you were dealing with.

All of the sudden, around chapter 8, a bunch of dragons attack Rome, wiping out several legions before the Romans can react. A dragon version of Pearl Harbor …

    Dude. It’s so happening.

You know, there is something to be said for dragons. This dude’s problem is that he plainly announces them from the outset.

I mean…dragons could become the BASF of literature. They don’t write the books you read…they make the books that you read better. Imagine the directions that would have opened up had dragons suddenly appeared in “Grapes of Wrath”. It certainly worked in Beowulf.

And…thinking on it…random dragon insertions would probably work well in film. I think Steel Magnolias would have a much larger male following that it does had Julia Roberts not been killed by cancer, but by a pissed off, firebreathing dragon that tore her to pieces and threw her charred bits at Dolly Parton.

    Desperate Housewives. With dragons.

Hell, even I’d watch it then. That’d be cool.
