Location: Sardinia

July 4, 2005

Yesterday, after a 100 mile per hour race down the autostrada to Civitavecchia, we made our way aboard our cruise ship, which will be our home for the next two weeks.

Things have gone reasonably well so far – dinner last night was superb – but we nevertheless met with ill fortune. Delayed flights, lost luggage, and now our first excursion – a mountain biking tour of Sardinia – was cancelled due to a lack of interest. In short, we are likely the only four who signed up for it. Damn. Of all the excursions, this is one I was really looking foward to.

Nevertheless, we are off the coast of Sardinia now. We steamed in about an hour and a half ago, just as the sun was coming over the horizon. What I can see of the island has the same rugged beauty that Sicily, Capri, and every other island in the Mediterranean seem to share.

More later in the day. We’re departing Sardinia early in order to reach Tunisia by tomorrow.
